Updates on the board (page 2)
There are too many connections causing peaks on the server, that's why it goes slow. It should be temporary though, when the peak goes the board works fine.
I'm also recoding most of this using AJAX based stuff, that's why I left unsolved the minor problems, but they will be fixed soon.

why did all the threads that contained over 75-100 pages deleted?
i.e. Vegan thread, Photographers Thread and the What did you get in the mail thread?
just curious. those were staples of the board.

those threads were some of the most active threads on the board. theres no way any of them sat for over 10 days with no reply.
Either way, its still a bummer they were deleted.

I say you add an exception so that once a thread hits a certain number of posts/replies, the 'deletion' occurs after something like 20-30 days of inactivity instead of only 10 days.
P.S. The board has been EXTREMELY slow for me over this past week..

I'm trying to figure out what the problem is with the board, apparently the server is not loaded so I'm trying to see what is going on. Bear with me a few days and I will fix this too.

Is there a cap on how many threads you can follow? That would be sweet if you could keep multiple pages of saved threads. Does the "follow thread" clear after a period of time? Maybe they're just being deleted due to inactivity and I'm not noticing.
And yeah, you should extend the time frame for when a thread gets deleted. You have awesome threads like "Creepy experience" thread that might get deleted if no one adds to it in a week and a half's time. That's a bummer and a half. Maybe there should be an archive board for classic threads deemed worthy? Just an idea.

Ben and I discussed a sub-board for new users. It will be like the minor leagues of Bridge9. Non-idiots can get called up after 90 days on a sub board. It will limit the dweebs and re-registering after getting banned. The downside will be no fake posters for good situations, but given that there haven't been any good fake posters in awhile, it won't matter much.
Also, will deleting inactive posters help?

board loads quick for me now.
up to date safari, mac osx.
I noticed the little loading wheel guy before the whole board expands out, and also every page has a page # below it, even if it's only on page 1.

Two things,
1) I know some Forum software has built in Report User/Report Post/Report Thread functionality. I don't know if this kind of thing for what B9 uses, but it might be something to look into with the sheer amount of new users this board has seen in the last 4 years, vs. the small amount of mods.
2) The board runs slow for everyone I know at least 75% of the time. Once again, with the amount of new users, it might be time to upgrade the hardware (I don't follow the server updates that you post very often, so I am not sure if this has happened recently or not).

I've been working on some updates for the last weeks and at this moment the board seems to respond pretty fast for me, please everybody check and give me some feedback on this.
The Loading wheel is also a new AJAX feature installed.
I have to strip down the messages table content, so messages older than 30 days will be deleted automatically. I'd like some feedback on this too about the timeframe.
Please try to keep the images the smallest and lightest you can, that's what's slowing down the server as well.
I'm going through the rest of the requests next days, keep suggestions and ideas coming.

I noticed yesterday that my animated gif avatar was missing and i went to re-upload it but theres a 40kb maximum size on avatars now. is this going to be permanent? can you make it so when can load avatars from a url (like photobucket, image shack, ect) like on the old board?

Keep hitting refresh, it should work eventually. I had the same probably trying to quote a post. Sucks, but if you need to send a PM it should work.

Just so you know, I'm working on the 503 errors as we speak. This debug process takes lot of time and it needs to be done step by step.
Remember I'm only one person and I don't have a team of developers to get this done quickly.
